Hi All,

My Convict tang has appeared with a nasty 1-2cm gash down his side. Water quality is excellent and I will normally treat with a Myzaxin bath, however for injuries like this with freshwater fish, I would normally apply a topical Tamadine (iodine based) treatment, followed by a little Orajel to seal and protect the wound.

Does anyone do this with their marine fish and any issues with Tamadine being used topically in a marine reef tank?

Thanks in advance!

You can use neosporin to coat the wound. Suggest a bath in methylene blue first. And then you can treat the QT tank with Neoplex (shares most of the same ingredients plus some antibiotics).

Thanks, my go-to for bacterial and fungal dips is Myxazin, which has Acriflavine, formaldehyde and Malachite green in it. However I was wondering if a topical treatment and subsequent wound sealant would be better.

Unfortunately, we have tight controls on antibiotics in the UK/Europe, so can't get antibiotic fish treatments as freely as you guys in the US. :(

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
