Tang, fish, water, volume? Or surface area?

What’s more important for a tang?
Water volume?
Or surface area?
For instance, a lowboy frag tank is only 50 gallons but it’s 4‘ x 2‘ wide.
Just want to settle this debate.

sounds reasonable you could have a tank that’s 8 feet long by a foot and a half wide and 12 inches tall. I could see something like a tomini tang or maybe yellow tang.
But I don’t see that working with a sailfin tang since that fish species gets a little tall, it wouldn’t need more height in the tank
