Starting up 540g tank that is 8' long x 3' wide and high. Advice here after researching forums and tang hierarchy want to be slow and deliberate.
Would add what many to consider least aggressive to most aggressive. Ultimately would want to add last would still be Powder Blue, Achilles, purple and yellow, but they are higher on aggression list. Like to start out with Blonde Naso, Orange Shoulder, Chevron then Tomini.
THOUGHTS?

Good luck finding a Chevron…. But the list looks good to me with the size. What else are you adding?

I think the list looks good and the order, fine. Do know that while I have a PBT and Achilles in my 500G - my Achilles has taken to chasing the PBT relentlessly. Thankfully with so much space and so many other tangs/fish it’s not fatal. But I’ll need to add other acanthurus tangs (namely goldrim or powder brown) to spread the direct aggression between these close cousins.

The big thing is to add several at a time. Ideally, adding the most aggressive last. For example, PBT and Achilles in the same batch.

I wondered about both of the powder tangs. Great advice!

Just add them in groups. As long as you dont add 1 at a time it works its way out. In my 180g i have a powder brown, naso blonde, gem, yellow, white tail and tomini all mostly happy!

will be adding anthias for sure, debating on large school chromis (yes, know stories about pecking order), clownfish, some wrasses (undecided which ones), couple gobies. Will be stocking coral soon but but want a good stable environment first.
WHERE would a Lieutenant (Tennetni) Tang be in hierarchy?

Honestly I think it depends on the individual fish. Unless its certain species it seems to be hit and miss with aggression. I would probably add that one in with a group before your super aggressive ones if it were me. Beautiful fish though, debated on getting one for a while though!

I say all at one time. They'll set up territories and hierarchy quicker that way.

Adding one tang to an established group is like a preppy guy being asked to walk into a biker bar to play some "billards"

Lol
