Tangs won't eat, I've tried everything:(

Your new tangs were wild caught. Their large sizes means that they were already adults when captured and very used to eating a totally wild diet. They may have to get very hungry before they start to accept foods that may not seem natural to them. Juvenile fish are generally easier to convert to prepared foods.

Feed them some nori and live brine shrimp, if you can get them.

Subscribed.. It's funny, I purchased a 4.5" clown Tang a week ago, and he is doing the exact same thing (just grazing on the rocks heavily).. So this is very much on time.

I have tried nori on the clip, nori that I break up into floating small pieces that would hopefully get his attention, pellets (seaweed extreme, NLS finicky fish, and thera a), Hikari mysis, freeze dried krill, and my medicated mixed food that has garlic, selcon, nori, and I cannot remember what else..

My little guy doesn't look as fat as yours (your guys look awesome), but I think I will try the nori in a rock..

Get the nori and rub it in front of a powerhead so it spreads throughout the tank . This should help

Have you tried the red Nori? I bought some just to mix it up with the green that I normally use and inhabitants of the tank that never even gave the green Nori a second look are all over the red ... it must be some special flavor I guess LOL ... you can also soak a little garlic extract into it or even selcon which is what I do from time to time.

I started with red nori :/ and wouldn't eat it so I switched to green with garlic

I had forgot all about the red.. Thank you! Yes, they usually go nuts over red algea.. I will pick up some.. And yes, I usually put a little garlic if they are a little reluctant.. But the red is an awesome suggestion... Thanks much dude!

Great news everyone !!!! I ran home on my lunch break today and fed one more time the same garlic soaked food just for kicks.... and bam!:) they are eating now !!! Wahhhoooo lol just being picky I guess or was a little shy ! Or got really hungry lol but thank you for all your suggestions, they helped and now we are successful

I have had great luck getting finicky fish to eat using fish eggs. I got them from Modern Aquatixs, they set off a feeding frenzy in my tank once I add it. It is pricey but a little goes a long way.

Mine, I'm not sure what he is eating.. But he looked a little thicker today.. I still have to grab the red nori. My plan is to go tomorrow. I might attempt to grab some fish eggs also

I actually needed to do nothing besides I suppose give him time, because ever since that day, he has been eating like crazy and picked up girth. I transported him to the display last night since he was doing so good.. He tussles with the powder brown a little bit, but from what I have read, his big and fun technique is normal.. He sort of stays to his little Rock structure, swimming or for a little bit, then, going back. Defending against anyone that comes close.. My hope is that aggressiveness will keep the fox that seems to enjoy bullying everyone, in check..

I had a mata that I was told, the clown would have a similar eating and attitude, so if so, I'm used to it..

my sailfin and kole wouldn't touch seaweed on my clip. i had to rubber band some to rock rubble to it looked more natural before they would eat it. Now they devour it. Might give that a shot if the clip doesn't start seeing any action.

Old post my my sailfin is the exact opposite. He will only eat seaweed on a clip, none of the natural stuff growing. I had someone tell me it might be "fish Alzheimer's" but I have no clue what he was talking about.
