What would be the tank size and dimensions required to keep something like a Regal or Goldflake Angel for its whole life? What about ones like the Lamarck’s and other Genicanthus? According to online sources the Regal and Goldflake get to 10” but would seeing one that big be a rarity? It also says Lamarck’s can get to 9-10” while the Spotbreast, Watanabei, Bellus, Japanese Masked etc. get to 6-7” if I’m not wrong.

Do they all need at least a 6’ tank?

I have a 6' 240g, 1 Regal and a couple dwarf angels, they act totally different since moving them from my previous 120g.

Nice. Was your 120g a 4ft tank?
Yes, was a standard 4*2*2. I never had any issues with them, just saying with the more open space I see completely different behavior from all tank mates. I did see a really nice golden angel, but was advised it would certainly pick at corals, figured wasn't worth the chance. I did just add a Gem tang and a blue spot jawfish.

Nice. Would you say the Gem Tang uses as much space as the large angels do? How big is it?
I would say he is 5" or so, just a little smaller than my Regal angel. I'm not the best at pics as I don't filter anything, but this is the gem.

Was a long trip to get him, but is doing well and eats anything you put in the tank.

Nice. Do you expect your Tang, Regal and Goldflake (is that the other one you have?) to grow much larger than their current lengths?

Not sure if this is unusual but there’s another user with an 11-year old Red Sea Regal that never made it past 6”.

A Golden Angel I wanted but was told it would eat coral for sure. I do have the Red Sea Regal and he is about 6", not sure how old, I've had him a couple years for sure.

He is a model citizen, swims with any new addition and eats anything I toss in there.

I don't think he will get much longer, he is fat, that is for sure. When I picked him up he was around the 3-3.5" mark. Certainly has not grown at the pace of my tangs.

The Regal 2 yrs now, the Yellow for several, he was the size of a quarter. The Black tang a couple years, Chevron and Mimic I've had for only a few months and the Gem just received last Thursday.

The yellow is around 4" now and the black would be around the 6" mark. They grew faster than the angel, but have all been together for over 2 years. They have no aggressive behaviour at feeding time and generally just swim together picking at the rock. No complaints for sure.
