Just an update for me to look back on; going to dump as much new info on each tank as I can. :grinning-face:
6 Gallon Vertical Reef:
Used to have a rock wall along the back of the tank but the structure toppled as I strugged to manually remove nuisance bryopsis prior to a tank crash. Is nothing new though since this happened in september lol. Since then, clownfish doing great. Still loved the same caulerpa plant in the center of the tank since the beginming. Loves to interact with my hand when I put it in there. Also absolutely 0 survival skills as he does not react when I shoo him or grab him, he just wants to play :)
5 Gallon Invertebrate only tank:
I don't know why my tank looked so colorful today I never noticed and I swear I did not add any saturation to the photos.
Anyway this tank has probobaly developed the BEST out of my 3 sw tanks. It cycled in about 3 weeks, is already growing a decent amount of coralline algae being only 5 months old, and I have so many beneficial algaes growing on my rock which started as dry marco.
I got some Caulerpa Taxifolia for free and somehow it's growing out of the pores in the rockwork which I think is super cool and looks very natural.
I added 2 blue legged hermit crabs and 4 (I meant to only buy 3) bumblebee snails last week, totalling to 5 blue hermits, and 6 snails. I feed them a mix of thawed mysis and brine shrimp daily which I pippete into the sand bed. They get super active when I feed them which makes me think that cleanup crews deserve more recognition not just for the niche they serve. I count them every night when I feed them and 0 deaths so far!
This one hermit I consider the "apex inhabitant" has upgraded shells 3 TIMES since I got him, and has the fastest reaction and running speed in response to food. I want to film him someday bit he darts across the tank for a bite as the others take it slow.
10 Gallon "Kelp Forest"
This tank will be macroalgae dominant, with these 11 species: Caulerpa - Prolifera, cuppressoides, ashmeadii, lobata. Gracilaria - Hayi, corticata, birdiae. Codium Fragile, Rhodopeltis Sp, Turbinaria Turbinata, Botryocladia Occidentalis.
I had to halt the development of the tank however as recently I had dealt with a severe case of red cyano. :grinning-face-with-sweat:Just about gone now though thanks to 2 doses of chemiclean. And a lot of water changes and scrubbing with a toothbrush.
In the future I want to glue or somehow attatch some rock to the back of the tank to make for a background where algaes can grow, and potentially be a perching spot for a couple of clown gobies I want to add.
So far I am truly enjoying this hobby and would like to continue it for hopefully until the day I die. I'm excited to see how the tanks grow and develop over the years!!
