I’m three weeks in with my new upgraded tank and already seeing new growth and coralline algae so I’ve already added new frags. I used all my existing live rock. Only a few pieces went into the display and the rest went into the new refugium(50 gallon stock tank).

The tank is roughly a 140g from SCA 57” x 24” x 24”. I made it these custom dimensions and moved the overflow to fit the only decent sized corner I had where a beam runs across my house. In this spot it can be seen through these windows that are in between my living room and dining room which lets me see some of the tank from the back.

The tank is run on a mix of cheap and expensive equipment.
Controller- apex
Auto Testing - trident
Dosing - DOS dosing 2 part esv
Lighting - reef breeders photon
Return - jebao DCW 10000
Wavemakers - jebao scp 120, jebao scp 90, and jebao Sw2 (temporary for surface movement in far end)
Skimmer - simplicity 2
Heater - dinner with controller
Refugium - 50 gallon rubbermade stock tank with 6 bulb Amazon t5. This tank has my old live rock, 3 mangroves, and some anthelia
Sump - 110 gallon tuff stuff stock tank

Tank drains down to refugium and then from refugium to the sump and then back upstairs. A tote in the sump keeps the skimmer chamber at a consistent height. All I run in addition to what I have already mentioned is a filter sock I change every few days and a small bag of carbon.

I like to keep things simple and cheap out where I can and spend money where I need to. In all the years I’ve used jebao pumps I’ve hardly cleaned them and have never had a single one fail on my yet and the apex gives me more peace of mind in case any ever do fail. The only thing I truly will never cheap out in is some sort of controller and a good heater with a good heater controller.
