My sump was pre designed, with the probe holder being in the same section as my return pump. So naturally that's where I placed my pH & Temp prob. My heater is placed in the center "equipment" section with my skimmer, before that is my sock then drain section.

I got to thinking about my temperature probe placement. Being in the section directly after the section containing my heater. Hasn't the water already been heated? Would the drain side of the sump be a better location for the temperature probe? Or if I have the proper turnover rate in my tank/sump should this not matter?

Maybe its not all that big of a deal. I'm just curious since according to apex fusion, my temperature is 77.5 at night and peaks at 80 after my t5s have kicked on for most the day. I don't think 2.5F is too big of a deal, but say my display is actually getting a degree or two cooler at night and hotter during the day(center section is where my fan blows in the sump), then I could be dealing with a larger swing.

My focus is on sps, so I'm trying to keep everything as stable as possible.

Later on today, I'm going to pull my temp probe and see whether the temp of the sump and tank are very different.

I think this plays more of an affect in correlation to your total water volume. So, the larger the system the more important this is, as it requires more from the heater(s), also might depend on how strong of a heating system you have for your total water volume. Either way, i would put the probe behind the heater, in reference to the water flow. I have mine in my skimmer chamber, next in line is my fuge, then my return (heater is in the return chamber). I also use additional digital temp gauges for back up.
