Test photos using my Nikon D7100

I've had this camera for about 12 years and never really learned how to use it. It's a Nikon D7100 with a Nikkor 18-200mm lens. I can point and shoot with it and it takes very decent photos using it that way, but photographing fish and corals does take a bit of skill.

Here's my first attempt just now, the DSLR really picks up water spots on the outside of the tank lol.

I've just now begun to read through the photography forum threads, there's likely tons of questions that I have that can be answered with some reading. The Tamron macro that d2mini linked to in the first sticky is selling for $650 on Amazon today . I'll have to poke around on ebay and see what's out there, I'm certain they can be bought for less second hand.

This one hasn’t even had its shutter broken in yet, somewhere in the menu I think it tells how many times the shutter has been used.

Those have the AF motors built into the body, so you can used older, cheaper glass (i.e. AF vs AF-S) and still have autofocus. You can probably pick up a 105mm Nikkor Micro for a hundred bucks or less. FredMiranda has a buy/sell section that can have better deals than eBay too, but it’s been a while since I’ve looked. Another option is spacers that you can use on whatever lenses you already have. Image quality will be better using a dedicated macro lens though.
