my daughter bought a little tank a week ago to keep fresh water fish.
She's been dosing a bio starter for this week.
I ghost fed the tank with a little flake food just now.

Q: how long should it take for any ammonia to be produced from this ghost feed , whether detectable or not?

Thanks :)

Fresh water I cycle for 2 wks. I used to have lot of fresh water setup.there is lot of stuff though to help with cycle. If in a hurry to get the tank up and running go fish stores and look they got stuff to help freshwater cycle.I usually just would wait 2 wks then test

agreed

the handiest thing you could do to make it quick cycle is to find old aquarium gravel already used that some store w sell you a bag of

rinse the waste out

make that your bottom layer if you can get a few handful's worth, re fill tank up, add tiny bioload in a week easy. that action plus any skip cycle doser ready in a week and even same day for a small fish bioload, all my aquaria on youtube are skip cycle tanks even the 14 yr freshwater bog planted tank. the classic situation is don't rush, in that case 2-4 has worked for decades in the hobby. we play with skip cycles in marine nano tanks all day long, so doing it in a fw is just another monday
