Hopefully this doesn't devolve into a discussion about "misusing" the emergency tag ;)

However, I can't help but laugh at a little slice of irony I noticed recently. If a post is tagged normally, I love to help others, no matter how trivial the issue and no many how many times the same issues are posted day after day.

However, once someone slaps the "emergency" tag on their post, I start to be more discerning- I've actually found myself responding to fewer emergency posts where I feel the issue is trivial than if they if the OP hadn't tagged the post as an emergency. Don't get me wrong, I don't see this as a issue or suggestive of something being wrong with the tag, but I can't help and laugh at this little bit of irony. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I just feel bad when the emergency tag pops up. I am like, oh, I want to help. Then, I realize that I need so much more information and do not want to jump to conclusions, that I am not what the person needs. :(

I am similar to you. I love helping people and try when I know something on the topic.

Sometimes the “emergency” takes a quick google search to answer their questions

that’s part of the problem, everyone wants the answers given to them without taking the 3 seconds to do a search.

99.9% of issues encountered have been answered numerous times here on r2rand other reef sites.

Seems like at least once a month a thread like this pops up.
I'm at the mindset of who are any one of us to tell another reefer what constitutes an emergency especially depending on different hobbyist levels?
I'm for sure not going to berate or bash someone for seeking advice about reefing on a reefing forum no matter how petty it may seem.
Almost didnt post in this thread only did cause I knew it would ruffle some emergency police feathers lol

Peace all just having fun

because there really are such things as dumb questions in life.

Its the info now age!
Many of the answers are questionable too.
I dont mind helping, but come on, at least look it up so you have an idea if any of the answers make sense.
I would take someone with common sense over someone with letters after their name if you could find one lol.
Far and few inbetween in todays world of commom sense.

Oh so many times this weekend. Worst one yet was a question about which rock scape was the best...
I just keep scrolling when I see that. The people that tag emergency so their post gets “to the top” and seen first are the Karens of reef2reef.

I hate to be “that person” but all of the what is this pineapple looking hitchhiker....a quick google search will tell you.
I’ve been seeing more and more people who don’t really want to research at all. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure we have all had those moments but after 10 years in the hobby I still research almost daily!

I knew this would get you riled up a little.
Just messing around here watching some ufc and felt a little jazzy. Like giving and taking crap with you I get it.
Honestly though the only stupid question is the one not asked.
Correct?

See I disagree, I truly feel there are dumb questions. Just like the saying goes, ask a dumb question, get a dumb answer.

Lol I’m on the fence with this one. I roll my eyes at the “dumb questions” but if I’m in a good mood I’ll give them the: these are normal and easily google able things. You can find more info here and here-instead of answering their questions. I’ve been a trainer my whole adult career-people are more likely to remember and understand if they find it or nudge them in the direction instead of you giving it to them. Those that can explain an answer to me or talk through it are the most likely to succeed in anything they’re trying to learn.

Ruffle away! The emergency police are nuts. Thank goodness they don’t run this site.
