Tbh I see more legitimate emergencies without the tag than seemingly non-emergencies with them, but I'm not trying to complain about the system because it's the same outcome regardless. Not sure if starting an emergency thread is quite as intuitive or obvious as it was before though.

Same here, been in hobby since like 07 I think, and still on here everyday looking up stuff
19 years as a chemical engineer in Silicon Valley.
I had reef tanks in the late 80's and I still look things up lol.
Their are a handfull of people on this site I will listen and take advice from because its apparent they know what they are talking about.
I am glad this site is here as I have and still learn from some very talented
people.

Hey gang,

They pulled the emergency forum to help narrow down the number of posts being flagged as emergency when they are not. Now we have the flag. Let’s remember we are all here to help, and enjoy each others company and experience. If you see a question or post you roll your eyes at just move on. Everyone sees things differently, so an emergency to one may not be an emergency to another. There is no criteria to meet when flagging as emergency, so we have to go based on the question merits.

Anyway, my tank techincaly has been an emergency since 1995, so go figure. ;Woot . Be nice, help ellow reefers, if it is not an emergency move on and find one of my threads and make fun of me:p

I hated your tank crash thread but loved your feet thread :)

i miss the em forum ,too many real em's going unseen for hours sometimes;)have not been here long, but was a go to for me;)

Kinda liked it as well. Yes there is merit to points made here but for the most part I kinda looked at those kind of emergencies as live sales threads and decided not to participate.
I do think the hobby can be overwhelming to new folks and can definently relate in the distress of some emergencies.
Maybe a sub forum specifically geared towards newbies?
Been reefing for 15 years but took a break.
Everything has changed since I last had a reef. I dont care how much I search the forums consider me totally dumb when it comes to chemistry I still dont get it. Never did. I can engineer and build you a sub division easily. But when it comes to chemistry my brain doesnt work like that lol
Just the technology alone. Lights. Everything has changed really.

I liked the em forum too. I think they tried to make some people happy getting rid of it.
That didn’t quite work out did it;)

Not really because I'm going to continue to post emergency threads no matter how dumb it seems to some people. Never really cared much about what other people think though.

Once again, what one thinks is a emergency, may not be a emergency to others. You may not agree with that and that's fine. We will have to agree to disagree.

We all started out as new hobbyist and had questions. When I started out there wasn't any forums, let alone the internet! We had to ask the LFS or buy books to read.

Many new hobbyist come here to ask questions because of the community and their willingness to help, not to hear that "their" emergency is trivial or should go somewhere else on the net to find their answers. That's some of what exactly did in the "other" forum. The attitude of "that's a dumb question"!

That's not Reef2reef and never will be.

The emergency tag is here to stay.

Have a good evening.

Cool

I agree with others, one reefers emergency may not be another’s. We are here to help other reefers succeed and we gladly help fellow reefers succeed. We ALL, at one point or another, thought something was an emergency while others didn’t.

R2R was built to help others, let’s continue that idea.:)
