The ever expanding build

i know...when i did a couple of cars for $700 they where expecting a $3000 fit and finish look

That's why I don't do side work aside for a couple cars I've restored for one guy who knows what quality work is worth. I get asked all the time by people expecting to get work done for next to nothing.

Awesome build by the way, how much longer before it get wet?

im hoping in like 2 weeks for some of it. i need to wait for some 2" bulkheads which i just ordered from us plastics...little over 5 a piece is darn good i think!
 
water is water right?? well it may not be salt water...nor ro water...but its water :)

ok ...now some bad news!!

one stupid part i forgot to buy!!! a 1" to 1.25" bushing that was to go here

because of this i cant do the flow in the rubbermaid yet !ohhh well...have to wait for the next day!! ro water in soon i hope :)

i took this bulk head off and cleaned it and cranked it down big time and still it leaks! just goes to show..no matter what you do...rubbermaid bulk heads are junk!!! this one is in the sump and not in the frag tank i did...i replaced that one befor i even started! i only had a few of the 1/25 bulk heads here and i guess i used one in the wrong spot :(

and by the way i did get that bushing for the rubermaid frag tank and the flow in there is great for mushrooms and rics!!

first off...the water turned into salt water using read sea pro to start it up. i think ill be using it all the time out here. the coral really like it!!and i do mean like!!

second...since the system is on the newer side..im running carbon in the system to help keep the water clear.

for second filtration im in debate. either buy a water blaster 5000 to run my diy skimmer or spend the money on a lighting set up for a larger turf algea scrubber. there will be some fish in this system...mainly six lines....but may put a select few in of others just for fun. so feeding will be at a min. i may only need a smaller skimmer or a smaller turf algea scrubber. any thoughts from any one??

well..that is my light rail that i made a few years back and i added to it with what i had around the house to do what i needed it to do...run lights on 2 tanks at once instead of one.

here is a closer look

whats going on in this last pic is that my original light rail is still intact...just had to bend some 90s flat to allow pulleys (what im using as wheels since i had them and they are plastic) to roll past and i built a track for those pulley wheels to ride in from some 2x4 and some scrap plastics from work to stay smooth and act as a guide for the wheels to stay where they needed to be. the wheels are attached to some frp arms that go to the bottom 2x4. that bottom one is the one that moves back and forth. the pink rod you see is there to have some zip strips on to push my "end" buttons on my light rail so the rail only goes little over 24" instead of 32". both tanks are 48" and if i put 2 lights on, the center to center of the lights would have ben 24" so now since i have 24" travel on a 5' board i can do 2 tanks with 2 lights. i also like to note that the light rail is on the same set of outlets as the lights so that way it will only run the same amount of time as the lights..it wont burn out the motor as fast that way.

here is a pic of the rubbermaid with the 175w 15k hamilton in a lumabright reflector on a icecap ballast. the light is in the center of the tank in this pic! id say i have good coverage and brightness for being about 2' above the water.
