The New Reef2Reef Marketplace Is Here!
Today, we’re excited to officially open the new Reef2Reef Marketplace! This is a state-of-the-art buying and selling experience created specifically for reefers, by reefers. We are incredibly excited about it, and we think you’re going to LOVE it!
One of the most important things about this Marketplace is that it isn’t separate from our community, it’s an extension of it. Listings, conversations, seller reputations, forum exposure, and Reef2Reef support all work together. We’re not trying to replace the community experience that made buying and selling on R2R special. We’re giving that experience better tools.
For more than 20 years, Reef2Reef members have bought, sold, and traded corals, fish, equipment, and other reef-related items through our community. During that time, we’ve learned a lot about what takes a reef-hobby buying and selling experience from good to great. We’ve incorporated that knowledge into an amazing new Marketplace tailor-made for the reefing community!
Before we go any further, we want to make one thing clear: the Marketplace forums you’re already familiar with aren’t going away and you can still buy and sell in the same traditional manner you have always done if you so choose. However, we truly believe that once you experience the new R2R Marketplace, you’ll understand why we think it provides an upgraded experience that simply isn’t achievable through forum threads alone.
The new Marketplace builds upon what our community already loves while adding powerful tools that take reefing transactions to an entirely new level!
There is no monthly fee and no fee simply to create a listing. Regular sellers pay a 6% Marketplace fee only when an item sells. Eligible Reef2Reef Supporting Members receive a reduced 5% seller rate. When pricing your listing, you can simply account for the Marketplace fee in your asking price, just as sellers commonly do on other major selling platforms. That small percentage helps provide the tools, visibility, transaction records, support, and community trust that an ordinary forum sale or general-purpose marketplace cannot offer together in one reef-specific platform. It also helps Reef2Reef continue investing in our community and building better tools for reefers.
Whether you’re searching for a particular coral, selling extra equipment, finding your next fish, or building a reputation as a dependable seller, the Reef2Reef Marketplace was built around the way our community actually buys and sells.
And this is only the beginning! We have many more improvements and integrations planned, and our community will help shape what comes next.
Share you marketplace suggestions and ideas here!
Check out the Reef2Reef Marketplace Handbook for seller guidelines, buying information, fees, policies, shipping and DOA information, and other Marketplace resources.
Thank you for being part of the Reef2Reef community and for helping us build the next chapter of reefing together.

What Makes the New Marketplace So Awesome?
We’re glad you asked! Here are some of the features we believe will create a much better shopping and transaction experience:- Better search, filtering, and maps. Find listings by category, price, location, livestock type, shipping options, and other reef-specific details. Interactive maps can even help you discover livestock and equipment available locally!
- More informative listings. Sellers can include photographs, video, animated GIFs, WYSIWYG status, origin, size, condition, shipping policies, DOA terms, and other important information. Many of these details are built directly into the listing process, helping buyers better understand exactly what they’re considering.
- The reef-specific inventory you expect, and more. Browse corals, fish, invertebrates, equipment, supplies, and other reef-related items without digging through unrelated products. We’ve even added categories for reefing events and services. It truly is a one-stop reefing shop!
- Integrated Reef2Reef messaging. Ask questions and communicate about listings and transactions through your familiar Reef2Reef inbox.
- Secure Stripe-powered checkout. Buy and sell with confidence using Stripe, one of the most trusted payment platforms in the world. Stripe is used by millions of businesses, including major companies like Amazon, Shopify, Lyft, OpenAI, Canva, Nasdaq, Hertz, and many more.
- Transaction information in one place. Payments, shipping, tracking, messages, refunds, and other important details can remain connected to the order.
- Verified transaction reviews. Buyers and sellers can build meaningful Marketplace reputations through reviews connected to actual purchases.
- Buyer and seller protection tools. Transaction records, dispute documentation, refund tracking, and order history provide a clearer process when something goes wrong.
- Reef2Reef moderation and support. When transaction assistance is needed, you’re dealing with people who understand Reef2Reef, reefers, livestock shipping, and the way our community buys and sells.
- Make it much harder for scammers to operate. Scammers have increasingly targeted Reef2Reef members through private messages, attempting to move transactions off-platform and take payment without delivering the promised item. The new Marketplace adds a structured checkout process, transaction records, seller history, messaging, and other safeguards that make this type of scam much more difficult to pull off. While no platform can eliminate fraud completely, keeping transactions inside the Reef2Reef Marketplace gives both buyers and legitimate sellers a safer, more accountable way to do business.
Why Should I Sell Through the Reef2Reef Marketplace?
The Marketplace doesn’t just make shopping easier, it gives sellers a more powerful and professional way to reach buyers, manage transactions, and build trust.- A listing experience tailor-made for reefers. Our intuitive selling tools and reef-specific listing fields make it easy to create, publish, and manage listings while giving buyers the details they need. Sell live goods, dry goods, equipment, show tickets, etc. You could even offer your reefing skills as a service to those who need help or need a vacation tank sitter!
- Better searchability helps the right buyers find your listings. Our reef-specific search and filtering tools make it easy for buyers hunting for exactly what you’re offering to find it. No more having your listing get lost in the shuffle as other threads are bumped and pushed to the top! Buyers can find your listing directly through Marketplace search!
- Reach a reef-focused audience. Put your livestock, equipment, and other reef-related items directly in front of people already interested in the hobby.
- Automatic thread creation. Get the best of both worlds! Once you list an item in our new market a corresponding thread will automatically be created within the selling forums of R2R, giving you double the selling exposure. You don’t have to choose between selling through a forum thread and using the new Marketplace, you receive visibility in both!
- Help your items stand out. Rich listing fields, photographs, video, animated GIFs, and reef-specific details allow you to show buyers exactly what you’re offering.
- Build a lasting seller reputation. Verified transaction reviews give dependable sellers an opportunity to develop trust and credibility within the community. We’ve also streamlined the feedback system, making it easy to give and receive visible feedback for transactions you loved, or the ones you didn’t…
- Keep your sales organized. Once an item sells, you can manage orders, messages, payments, shipping, tracking, refunds, and transaction records without piecing everything together from separate forum conversations and payment accounts.
- Give buyers greater confidence. Secure checkout, documented order history, clear seller terms, and established problem-reporting tools can help buyers feel more comfortable completing a purchase.
How Marketplace Seller Fees Work
A small seller commission is built into each completed transaction. Creating and supporting a secure, reef-specific Marketplace requires payment processing, development, moderation, transaction tools, dispute support, and continued improvements. The seller fee helps make the Marketplace sustainable while allowing us to continue developing new tools and features that make it even better.
Built for Reefers, Without All the Clutter!
This isn’t a general marketplace where reef products are buried among millions of unrelated listings. It’s reefing, all the time!Whether you’re searching for a particular coral, selling extra equipment, finding your next fish, or building a reputation as a dependable seller, the Reef2Reef Marketplace was built around the way our community actually buys and sells.
And this is only the beginning! We have many more improvements and integrations planned, and our community will help shape what comes next.
Help Us Make It Even Better
This is a major new chapter for Reef2Reef, but it’s also just the beginning. As thousands of reefers begin using the Marketplace, we’ll continue improving it based on real-world use and community suggestions. If you find something that could be better, or have an idea for a feature, we want to hear it.Share you marketplace suggestions and ideas here!
