This is my build thread for my Planet 120 I bought second hand.
I just got it home today. The move was cumbersome as the previous owners maintenance had dropped off in the recent years and he was phasing out of the hobby. The stand definitely needs some TLC to bring it back to its original glory. I think I’m going to paint it white once I get the salt creep and calcium off. Also several spots that the veneer needs to be repaired, hence the idea to paint it.
The live rock was covered in vermetid snails and aptasia. There was also a pretty bad asterina star fish infestation. I have no idea if I’m spelling any of that right. The guy I hired to move it ran hot through it for about 30 minutes to kill all the lingering pests in the tank, sump and equipment.
It came with some solid equipment though. 3 radions, an apex, two vectra pumps, one of which needs to be fixed and two tunze turbelle stream 3’s, which are massive. A bubble king double cone 200 with Red Dragon pump, which seems oversized for size tank.
The working return pump is a vectra S2 which seems undersized so I’m going to get a new impeller for the M2 and hopefully that fixes it. Cleaning the M2 didn’t do the trick unfortunately.
The mover is going to hook me up with some dry rock that isn’t covered in crap but I can’t pick that up for about a week so the full setup will be delayed.
I’m going to get some nitrfying bacteria and start cycling it as soon as possible. I have some bio media I can put in from old tank to get it going too.
If anyone has some tips for getting super encrusted calcium deposit off, let me know because there’s like 1/8 inch of deposits on the side of the light bar.
