I’ll be breaking this one soon . Micro Goni is aggressive and invasive for me.

Reminder to myself, scoly , acan etc does better in dirty water. Since I don’t do spot feeding

No major update. Both pico tanks are running without any hob filter. Mechanical filter and chemical media is now running off the back chamber. Will wait and see how that turns out before making any other changes. I got couple of 5v usb based submersible pump for flows, want to try those next.

I think the orange monti is growing slowly in Bozeman. I have also added a small frag of micro goniopora for acclimation, will glue it to the main rock if it does good.
On a separate note, I recently modded one of my screen scraper to screw a razor blade. I find it way more effective in cleaning glass , and till recently I was using hand to scrape the glass . This one should work for bigger

Time has passed and I am getting some free time now. Initial house work is now kinda settled. I got my big rodi setup going. Whole bunch of reef-pi builds were upgraded with new shiny . I was able to resurrect grace , the very first biocube 29 couple of weeks back. It’s recycling now . I intend to keep it very simple and focus on some softies mainly ,

Here is the current fts of Bozeman . Digitata has grown significantly , while the blue clove polyp coral has receded mostly . Two of the sexy shrimp still lives off the land :) . Tank is on mostly auto mode . No additives , no food , monthly or once every two week water change .

Current FTS of the two pico tanks. Both are humming along . I am starting to dose all for reef through ato at very low dilution

Planning to let the corals grow a bit before I change anything next .

Current fts of the picos.
I’m aiming for converting this into a lps/softy heavy tank

And the other one

Had some minor issue with heaters , they were not able to keep up with the winter temperature.

After playing with few options I settled with 2x powerful heater (50w).
and while we are here, the ato chart . I use this to get an understanding of how much water is being used for ato every week, at what frequency etc. for picos I am dosing all for reef through ato . These number help me dial down the dosing regiment. It’s still not very accurate though ,

C3F33BD3-506D-40EA-9723-490E0AB3BE2C.png

but as of now , it’s fine. I think I’ll deploy a dedicated doser one i start adding sps more aggressively . As the sps sticks in my redsea reefer is getting chunky , I think that day is coming soon

As my larger 65g tank is maturing I’m finally getting enough sps growth to start frags. And slowly try to convert this pico into a sps dominant one. It will have higher light and all for reef dosing regimen for alk stability. I have already added a 12v brushless pump for flow. Highly recommended

and healdsberg . Adding more and more lps/softies on this one. Now it houses a prawn goby as well. That dude is extremely cryptic , but due to small tank size and him being the only resident, I can spot him easily underneath the

Now that house work has settled mostly , and post pandemic life is coming back to normal , I’m getting some more time to play with hardware side of things.
for long I was thinking of improving the stand design from last several years of learning . And here is what ended up
EA7873BF-096F-49DF-8EF7-9829A7E240F2.jpeg

This is a custom hand made stand for a pico tank. It’s made with 3/4” plywood with domino joinery and edge banded. Chalk paint with general finish satin oil based top coat (don’t recommend it, it leaves a yellow tint). Hardware are all brushed bronze colore steel made.
8F1309FF-37A4-43D2-A0D3-1961D3B9FD85.jpeg

It has doors with soft close hinges on both side . Ato container in the main section ion with shelving for the controller unit , and equipment on the right. Everything is accessible.
There’s a front panel with mounted switches for manual override of key functions. I have not hooked it up yet , I plan to configure ato , light and Powerhead with those . There’s 3D printed brackets to mount the left side- front panel.
