I'm still pretty new to making videos. I've been doing youtube videos on rural reefkeeping and documenting my various tanks for about the last year. For almost 2 years I've lived in a very rural setting 3+hrs from the closest reef shop and 6+hrs from the reef shops I came to love over the last decade plus. I could have just made this a super long post in the reef discussion forum as I still think forums are the best means for discussions but making videos is a nice distraction and I enjoy looking at and sharing all my old footage.

In this rather long video I get into the top 10 things I've learned about rural reefkeeping. 5 are good and 5 are bad. It's been a real hard adjustment which I only get into the reef related things, but everything else has been strange. I (and my family) thought we'd have a whole new lifestyle living out here but as I mention in the video there probably is a reason why people from the city rarely move to the country.

I get some fantastic drone footage especially considering it was the first time I ever flew one. It also really shows the isolation here. While the closest reef shop is 3+hrs like I mentioned, for example the closest korean bbq is 6+hrs and only acceptable sushi is within driving distance. Food is probably the hardest struggle followed by reef related things.

Thanks for sharing :) I'll possibly be in the same situation in a few months and have to drive a few hours to get to any LFS.

There really is no way to be sure it's going to work until you do it but I urge you to really think about it some more. I really had no idea how hard it would be to move so far away to nothing. Food is probably the number one thing I miss, but fish stuff is a close second and there are a million other things too.

It's not a permanent move, more or less a temporary one until I secure a job in South Florida where there are plenty of LFS and Food options :)
