Were you 'drilling' the holes with the tank sitting on concrete as in the pictures? If so, that's part of the problem. The rough concrete concentrates pressure on high points which will crack your glass. I sit mine on dense rubber when drilling with a dribbling garden hose on the drill bit and glass for cooling. I find a battery drill better as it is easier to control and slower. Also safer with all the water.
