Can anyone tell me what this is? It was on a rock with some small zoas and had started to grow on top of them, keeping a couple from opening. My husband finally pulled the rock out and tried to scrub it off and eventually used a toothpick to pull it out of a hole in the rock. Is it sponge? We're having a lot of clear sponge growing in our tank. Thank you for your help.

Are or is there more in your tank like this?
If so make a clear close up picture and post it here.
@Lionfish Lair might put a ID on it.

It's already been disposed of. But I have a couple more pics. I only have the camera on my phone so the pics probably won't help much. I have noticed a lot of sponge (from what I've been told) growing in my tank. I thought it was that encroaching on my zoa's but what came off the rock didn't look as clear as the sponge does. I just took a pic of the sponge but it is hard to see with my crappy camera quality. It's the stuff on the left of the pic under the mushroom.

Is it only in one place or more areas?
Can you provide a pic of your sponges too?

Edit: That water in the bowl is that coming of your rock after cleaning it?

It's on the left under the mushroom. Tube like/root like structures.

That might be sponges if the have small tubes like in the pic.
How is your flow and light?
With more flow and stronger light they will stop growing in the open and they will pop up under or between rocks where there isn't much flow or light.
It's kinda weird that it was trying to grow over your zoa's.
Some algae that looks like that will grow over your corals but they will develop air bubbles.

You're missing a picture in the sequence in post #5. That's probably some of my confusion. Picture #3 is missing.

Yes it is. We don't have the best flow in our bowfront, corner tank and are in the process of fixing that.

As far as lighting, I have a 16" SB Reef Lights Sbox (between 14K-20K) blues at 75% and whites at 15%.

Sorry don't know this light but you think it put out enough par?
More flow is always a plus of course to a point that your tank won't experience like a hurricane force flow in your system as to much flow won't work either.

I'm not sure about the par. The company that sells the lights say they will put growth rates and coral color up against any other LED lights out there. I think the shape of our tank is the reason we're having problems with the flow.
