I had cut out a cover from a plastic egg crate but didn’t like how it cast a grid shadow into the tank. I needed a custom cover for my particular build and didn’t want an aluminum frame that could corrode and contaminate the water so I checked into acrylic top builders. I was astonished at the prices I was getting and decided to diy one. So I drew up a plan, picked up some, plastic screen and polycarbonate and put one together for less than a tenth of the quotes I had gotten. Really wasn’t all that difficult.

Nice job. Thrifty too.😊

I am of a similar mindset. My questions are did use polycarbonate or Acrylic? Was it UV coated or would that block zooanthae spectrums. Lastly (a teo part question) Does salt or water build up on the inside blocking light and do you feel there is still good gas exchange. I'm thinking of using on a IM 75 or 90 and wondering if CO2 exchange will be hampered.
Thanks in advance.

I used polycarbonate only because I purchased scrap pieces cheap. I cut 1" wide strips and made them into a top and bottom frame. I then sandwiched the acrylic mesh in between and glued the frames together. No uv. No salt creep. No obstruction of gas exchange as this is like what you would get from a custom mesh top company. Just not quite as professional, but a heck of a lot cheaper.
