Hello, has anyone tried something similar?I’m just curious if the 300 gal tub is sustainable long term, I try and clean the floor of debris once a week with a 5 gal water change but it’s impossible to get behind the wall of live rock lol I was planning to plumb everything together.

I have a 300g rubbermaid tank just like that. Think I purchased it in 2007 spent 3 years as part of my former reef back then. Now its been in use as a freshwater pond for the last 6 years in my fish room. They last a long time and are meant to be out in the elements and last. Or did you have some other concern? You touched on detritus is that your concern?

I used a 150g, and 100g Rubbermaid back in the day for fertilizer stock tanks; they held up fantastic! — way better than any normal aquarium would!

My LFS has a 100g Rubbermaid for their “pond” ; it’s been up and running full of water for over two decades!

Edit; I love the sunlight supply T5 array; it’s good to see that people still use em’! — I’d have this exact same setup now if I had more free space in the garage!

I clicked into this fully expecting to see another RS Seam Failure thread...

I've thought that would be a cool way to do a clam garden. I'm sure the tank will hold up. The maintenance issues you mention are another issue, but manageable.

but it’s impossible to get behind the wall of live rock
What about sticking a powerful wave maker, or the outlet of a surge device back behind this wall of rock to blow all the detritus out periodically?
