This is a super rare fish now due to the Hawaii ban, would love to see them showcased more, and I’m generally curious as to how many are kept in our tanks currently.

Let’s see some pictures!

I don’t have a Tinkeri, but I’ll start and post a very cool Tinkeri hybrid, (however I think it could be a Flavocoranatus.)

Real Flavocoronatus is from Guam, so unless your fish was collected there I’d have it as a hybrid. The Flavocoronatus is kind of in the same category as another species there, Centropyge shepardi, in that they could be the result of generations of hybridization to the point where the hybrids could only mate with each other, and then became their own species.

In some places where different Roaps species congregate, the hybrids are more common than pure individuals of either parent species. The most widely-ranging species seems to be the Burgess, so your fish if not a Flavocoronatus would definitely have some Burgess genes and Tinkeri / Declivis.

Mitratus is Indian Ocean and western edge of Indonesia. Most are collected from Maldives, I think. When I watched diving videos in Mauritius and Reunion from a French YT channel, Mitratus there is a common fish at depth.

How’s yours doing? What are his / her tankmates and what does he / she eat?

He’s doing well now. Got him about 6 weeks ago, when I first got him, he was very shy, and wasn’t eating well - low appetite, and was skinny. Now he eats everything and is gaining weight.

He’s in a 700 gallon, and I have other Roaps species - Burgess, Declivis, & Mitratus and a host of other fish.

I don’t believe he was collected in Guam, however, I thought Flavo’s are just identified by their markings/yellow crown - the crown has some black in it, but that’s all I see that’s different.

A shot of the tank mates.

This was mine few years ago in my NPS system. Getting back to the hobby after 8 years, unbelievable how rare and expensive fish and corals are now.

@M&M Mark your deepwater NPS biotope’s one of the best tanks I seen. What happened to it and how long did you have the fish and NPS in it for?

Is your new tank still going to be a deepwater theme? Any ideas / thoughts for what you’re gonna put in it?

Thanks.

Thank you. That system was going for about 2 years before I took it down. There was no issues , but my life got busy. I got married, had a son , work was super busy. So I sold everything and took a long break from reefing. Now that my life stabilized , I am getting back to the hobby again. I missed it a lot. This time I will be doing SPS system. I will start a thread soon on this forum. Tank is already cycled and some fish are in.

I wonder if he still has his deepwater tank setup, or he’s changing direction. I def have a thing for Mesophotic / deepwater fish, NPS is another issue.
Unfortunately that system is no longer. I had to take it down and take a break from the hobby. Life got too busy. I am coming back with a smaller SPS system. I will start a build thread soon.
