I have decided to go with the Evo 13.5. I have this window that is above my kitchen sink that is shared with the next room…

my partner said “ you see an empty space and you instantly think an aquarium of sorts will fit perfectly there”… he is right LOL I can’t turn the function off in me brain.


Currently stock everything on the tank besides a 50 W heater with two dry rocks and CaribSea Arag-Alive Natural Reef sand/gravel. I am exactly one week in with my tank and had the fish store test my water and it is cycled, but suggested I wait another week to add anything. I do admit that I was secretly pleased with the results as a newbie one week in.

Wow one week and it’s cycled!!! Did you add Dr Tim’s or Fritz to help with the cycle? I know it’s only a 13.5 gallon tank with probably 10g of water with sand and rock now. Sounds like your gonna have them test again in a week and if it’s still good parameters you get to add your first fishy which is always fun cause then your off to races if it does good and get to add some coral like mushrooms or zoas if you’re planning to add coral either way congrats and good luck.

Congratulations on your new tank, very exciting.

If you did not use wet cured live rock than the tank is not cycled yet. You got to watch those sneaky little buggers at the LFS. It's a business and as a business the strategy is to sell products.

Ran this same tank on my counter for few years , ditch the foam that comes in the back compartment it’s holds a lot of nitrates but it’s a great tank enjoy

Yeah....one week with dry rock means theres a lot of ugly to come. As stated, a mature rock will jump start a tank that quickly but all the new surfaces still need to be covered in biofilm. It wouldnt hurt to at least add some ocean live sand or ocean live rock if you are set on the dry rock start.

Sounds like a fun little tank. I’d definitely get some maricultured rock or some live sand. Tampa Bay Saltwater has great packages of rock/sand for small tanks

I did use the stability, prime, ph by Seachem as well.

What did you use in replacement?

Bought the intank media basket ran some Chemi pure and filter floss. Also the stock pump has a sponge on it small and hidden and over time gets gunked up and slows flow .
