Hey R2R,

Was doing a water change and this slimer poked out of the water for maybe 10 minutes but I noticed the tips are brown. Polys still extended and fluffy, something to worry about?

Hopefully not, it happens on the reef.
What light are you running? Just curious if the light "burned" them. Like a LED right above. They are powerful lights.

Unrelated story: i was unboxing my LED and I turned them on to see how they were. Then I smelled the burning smell, it was my white LED was a few inches away from the cardboard and it started to smoke. That's how powerful these lights are.

That’s a good point. I have 3 radion xr30 gen6 pros with diffusers running at 50%.

I’d say they are about a foot off the water line:

That's a pretty diffuse spread.
The g6's has a 126 degree spread unless you swapped optics.
Add a diffuser and too high of 1ft ( depends what you want covered or tank width but see the light creep on the back wall

a 126 degree point of light at 12" spreads a 47" diameter circle on the water surface)
it " should" be uniformly dispersed.

No real hot spots with a possible exception where beams overlap but really doubtful.
Then go deeper than the water line diffusing it even more.

What caused pigment loss???

Could be a illusion but it looks like the circled tip may be the same brown

Its not, I just noticed that now too. It looks like some kind of slimey algae but just on these new tips and no other sticks have them.

Ill see if I can scrub gently and see if it comes off. My nutrients are 17ppm for nirates and phosphate higher at .23ppm. No nuisance algae other then bubble but since its a "newer" tank the phosphate reading isnt shocking me.

I am setting up a algae scrubber and see if I can start absorbing the phosphate.

I could remove the brown parts gently with a brush so some type of growth. I’ll try and get some pics later but seems like the tips are bleaching.

Any recommendations for a course of action? Rest of the corals are fine as far as I could see.

My alk is 9.2 I’ll check the rest later tonight.

Only thing I changed recently was adding AQ zeo mix to get aluminum down for maybe about 2 weeks I already removed it and added a algae scrubber

Snip the tip and the only thing I can recommend.
