Toadstool polyps falling off

Brutal. I have never heard of that before. Usually when leathers die, they retract their polyps and go all weird and melty and stringy...

Perhaps something in the tank is having a bit of a feast?

That does not sound right at all. Are you sure you're not seeing a spawning event?

Actually I have had the same issue. The head will split and there will be a new "head" that will be attached to the older head for sometime then eventually it will fall off and I will discover that on the sand. I just glue that on a new frag plug. I'll add a picture.

That sounds like budding. Sarcophyton reproduce 3 ways, broadcast spawning, lateral fission and budding.

Sorry to piggyback on an old thread but seems like my toadstool is doing this. Anyone confirm what is going on? Just the tips of the polyps are falling off.....weird. Completely normal about 4 days ago. All my other corals doing fine.

Reproduction via budding

Cool, i was worried something was wrong, it’s my favorite coral in the tank....
Sorry to revive, but this is exactly what mine is currently going through. Just confirming that this was not something else that negatively impacted the coral?
