setting up a tank and have lots of dust or silt on the inside glass. I bounda sponge to a large spoon with a rubber band but surely there must be a proper tool for this? Would a squeegee work?

Yep. Blew sand around the last couple of days to get rid of silt.

Actually, I have one. Magnet is so strong I am thinking it will abraid the glass if I use it on dust.
Can just wipe it down on the inside, I wouldn't suspect this silt issue happening again. Sand and silt usually will settle down in a week or 2. Then you can use your magnets as you please. I use a squeegee on the outside to clean the glass, can use it on the inside. Just make sure it won't have any metals or chemicals that can fall/leach into your aquarium.

Just used the mag-float and it worked. I didn't realize the abrader was something like a velcro strip, so I don't think scratching is an issue. However, I can't use this thing on the back flow. I will just strap felt on a stick for this.

for the back flow glass I use a tool which holds a small blade (Stanley) just make sure you clean off the blade first, this will clean it thoroughly with no scratching at all,
