Hey all! This thread is half review/half PSA.
I recently ordered/received my Top Lid for my UNS R150. I ordered from them after reading great reviews on here and other sources. Here is a quick review, with a cautionary caveat.
The lid is expensive. Close to $500 for a 5’ piece of plastic, but hey, I knew that going in! Shipping and updates were great. I like the Friday updates. Lid is beautiful. Fits perfectly.
The rub here was the ordering process, clarity of orientation detail, and subsequent company response. Here is the story:
Note that this lid is “semi” custom. You order for your tank, and then pick where you want things like light cutouts, auto feeder, etc. the rub was the feeder. I was PARANOID I was going to order my auto feeder cutout on the wrong side. I have my tank up against the wall, so the plank cutout could only work on one side. I chatted and texted for clarification before I ordered, since the site options were “ left” and “right”. My left or tanks left!? I am an engineer, so I overthink these things. The tank has a front, back, left and right that is different from MY left and right when facing the tank.
I received a quick, helpful (I thought) response. The associate texted me a picture of a tank with a lid with an auto feeder cutout built into the right side of the lid (from the front point of view). They said, “this is the left orientation”. Ureka! I had it, a clear pic. I needed it on the opposite side of the photo, so I ordered it on the right side.
You can guess what happened next. Lid came, feeder cutout on wrong side. Looking back at the photo, it had a hand drawn red line on the opposite side, which I noticed, but discarded as a scribble. Then came the only negative part of this experience. After contacting customer service, I was told I needed to shell out another $100 to replace that part of the lid. I didn’t put up much of a fight, but it’s been irking me. I was told this was a tremendous discount, which I figure may be cost, but I bet it’s a bit higher. The part that followed is what bothered me the most. I asked if they would throw in the insert for the auto feeder cut out to seal the deal. I was told “no, due to the loss they were taking on the remake”. I needed to fork over the $12, full price. Really?
Listen, beautiful product, but I feel the CS (and I think I was working with the owner) could use an upgrade. Be careful when you order, make sure to get it right, have them send you a mock up! This is what I should have done, would have saved me $112. Thanks for reading.
