Torch coral spitting something weird

So I’ve seen torches spit the usual brown stuff but never seen it do this. Does anyone know what it is?

Mesenterial filaments. Could be a sign of distress or combat with neighboring coral.

I was thinking stress because I have my protein skimmer overflow on me but not it seems to be gone.

Thought combat for torches is with the sweepers? My money is it's sick. Hopefully it doesn't polyp bailout

Nematocysts can be found in the tentacles themselves and are present in the mesenterial filaments so it’s either really angry or in distress

Idk to be honest, mine gets whipped around pretty good with flow. It’s indirect but strong. I would double check parameters to make sure nothing’s off first before you move it.

I know the usual alk calcium and mag are fine because I checked them last night but I did have the protein skimmer overflow and it’s still currently overflow I assume from something that got sprayed in the air. I have carbon in the tank but I’ll replace it here shortly.

Noted I think that’s how I lost my last torch it bleached on me but was still very alive but when I moved it to get a little more light and flow it went in a few days.

Same thing heapend to my 24k aussie.. It was touching green torch whit yallow tips..

Slowly got worse and worse mine was no where near any other coral tried taking it out and dipping no luck :/ I hope yours recovers though. Noticed you got a few aiptasia near your green torch may want to get rid of them

I had the same issue happen with me where the was no saving it. I’m a strong believer that the issue with torches is that they like high alk and a bit dirtier water. Without those two things torches usually reduces in health and they start bleaching or brown jelly in some cases. After switching my alk to 7 sps are happy but I have no torch in sight my last one died months ago and it was a Todd’s which left a sour taste.

Idk what to say.. I have 3 other torches and they all doing fine. My alk is always arround 7.5 very stable. No3 50 po4 0.05-0.1

So for me I think the lowest you can do with torches is around 8 and at 7 you will run into issues. Again even that is my experience just because every tank is different so someone’s tank may be able to do it.

What?

You do know the normal alkalinity of the ocean is right around 7DKH right? So why the suggestion to not go lower then 8?

I've never ran my tank higher then 7.5 and all my euphyillia do just fine.
