Torch Flow

Tank is about 4 months old, what do you guys think about a descent flow in the tank for LPS. I watched a vid from a diver and saw torches getting absolutely hammered by the current and growing with polyp extension longer than my arm. Also other corals stayed away because they are territorial. I upped my flow and increased my lighting and alkalinity and now these guys are happy. Thoughts? Inform me.

Thank you Mojo, hopefully we can get some experienced reefers putting in some knowledge into this thread and some newcomers that need to know! I keep my hammers at a low flow but the torches, they really love high random flow, in my recent minimal experience. Let’s learn and compare our experiences!

My torches get higher moderate random Flo but my hammers and frogspawn get less that looks more like a jiggly movement.

In general, the flow of the tank is extremely important. Wished i had known this from the start. Invest in a good wave maker, makes the cleaning a lot easier and kicks off the detritus off corals and some at the bottom. The Ecotech wave maker is at the high end, but too costly. You can go for a similar product like jecod wave maker, the one with wire outside is the way to way. Takes out the electricty leak risk as well. Also, makes the feeding much easier, just a button to pause the flow instead of unplugging the power outlet.

I don't like them being hammered with a ton of flow. Medium is as high as I like to go, but I am fine with low flow as long as there is movement.

All my torches see really high random flow, but they are the LPS that can really handle the flow with all my acros. Once I started keeping torches in high flow, growth was exponential and its been years since I've lost any heads.
