I currently have a 29 biocube, and found a deal on a IM 40g, and I was wondering would there be any side effects if I scrapped my old sand and used new sand in the tank? Everything else will be old.

Thanks for the advice. You will not want to used the old sand period. If you are transferring filter media and live rock you should be fine. I would definitely add a bacterial additive when you do the transfer, something like Dr. Tim's or Microbacter 7 just to help with the bacteria you lose in the process. Just make sure to keep an eye on your ammonia for a few days while the bacteria repopulates but you should be fine.
Awesome thanks for sharing that thread full of experiences.Official Sand Rinse and Tank Transfer thread
If you are reading this thread to cure a tank invasion from a link I sent you, we do not need to identify your type of invasion here we do not need you to test anything at anytime regarding nitrate, phosphate etc Above all, we do not need to see a microscope slide picture of your invasion at...www.reef2reef.com
