these are a great size and inexpensive. definately not the typical ones I see for sale.Sticking around to see what @ISpeakForTheSeas has to say. Definitely has the trochus shaped shell.
Ya from your description of the size, not a banded trochus. Definitely some type of trochus. If it does twice the work of a banded, due to it’s size, it will make for an excellent addition to your cuc.these are a great size and inexpensive. definately not the typical ones I see for sale.
Where did you get it from, lfs?these are a great size and inexpensive. definately not the typical ones I see for sale.
Petco.Where did you get it from, lfs?
It looks like my torch’s.. I’m not familiar with all the different species.. @ISpeakForTheSeas
Definitely from the Trochoidea superfamily. T. maculatus is a good guess; because of the ridges on the shell, though, I'm leaning toward it being Tectus fenestratus (some have very pronounced ridges, others have tiny ridges like this).Sticking around to see what @ISpeakForTheSeas has to say. Didn’t want to retract so I tried out of water and back on glass.Definitely from the Trochoidea superfamily. If you can get a straight-on, white light pic of the bottom of the shell with the snail hiding in the shell, I could probably tell for sure which though (the umbilicus is different between the two).
Either way, they should be good CUC.
I’ll take 10 please.Didn’t want to retract so I tried out of water and back on glass.
they actually had a lot. first time I've ever seen this species. all the locals have been out of CUC's for a while now.I’ll take 10 please.
There isn’t a Petco near me but I do have an awesome lfs. If we get an id perhaps they could order some for me.they actually had a lot. first time I've ever seen this species. all the locals have been out of CUC's for a while now.
Good pics, but the foot is covering the area I'd need to see - does the snail have a circular hole in the center of the shell, or not? (See the bottom-right shell pics in the links below for examples).Didn’t want to retract so I tried out of water and back on glass.
Blue Zoo Aquatics has them listed (at least according to the pic on the site) as Trochus snails:first time I've ever seen this species.
leaning towards fenestratus too without seeing the bottom.Good pics, but the foot is covering the area I'd need to see - does the snail have a circular hole in the center of the shell, or not? (See the bottom-right shell pics in the links below for examples).
With hole (phaneromphalous umbilicus):
