I started with a home made skimmer with wooden air stones, I bet I have had 15 different skimmers. I am not going to bash anyone skimmer but the easiest one so far for me is Life Reef set and forget but they are large

Switched from RO to a small Deltec about 6 months ago. Took about 1 week to tune and havent touched it since. I have about 90 gallons total.

I just got my lifereef a couple weeks ago and love it so far. Simple adjustment of the exiting water gate valve and that’s it. Venturi is self cleaning by drawing in moist air through the cup instead of dry.
He will make the skimmer whatever colors you want too.
From the time I gave him the go ahead to my door was about 2 weeks. I don’t know if he is busier now or not but even if he is, it’s worth the wait.

Here's another vote for LifeReef. Very simple design. Extremely reliable. Set it and forget it . . . you do have to dump the stinky stuff out of it.

The only thing I wish that Jeff would do different on the skimmer is come up with a better seal where the cup fits on the neck. It seals fine, but sometimes the Oring slipping around can be a pain. Mine is like 12 years old, so he may have changed that by now. :-)

I currently use a curve 5. I like the asm skimmers tho they are set and forgot water level changes didn't bother it at all

My o ring only slips if the neck is wet

For me, it works best if I set the o-ring near the bottom of the neck and then push the cup down onto the skimmer. You have to apply some force but can’t apply too much. I don’t remove often since I can empty the cup by opening the ball valve and letting the skimmate drain out.

I do the same thing, aside from the odd cleaning the cup stays where It is and drain with a valve at the end of a RO line.

I have beenninnthe hobby for 14 years. I had used many different brand of skimmers from bubble king, reef.dyaic, reef octopus amd aquamax and vertext. I have to say the Vertext omega 130 is one of the worse skimmer.

Another vote for lifereef here. One of the top 2 pieces of equipment I’ve invested in for my reef.
