I think watermelon has become a broad term for the pink with green eye chalices. I have one but it def is not a Tyree. Tyree is an insane highlighter color pink and green. Mine is a more faded pink. Either way your chalice is amazing. Nice find.

Small world.

I am meeting up with someone tomorrow to sell some corals and he mentioned he just bought a Tyree Watermelon off E-bay. I asked if the guy was from Carpenersville and it turns out the guy who bought this piece is the same guy I'm meeting tomorrow.

Turns out the seller has not only a HUGE colony of this that he frags every couple months but also lineage all the way back.....

Should have grabbed it while you had the chance :)

??The guy contacted me for a trade and then never responded to emails about what he wanted to trade? So TBH I didn't loss my chance, they guy drifted into no mans land and never returned my email?

Here is an article by Tyree on the water melon chalice in this magazine. This is a free monthly magazine that can be picked up in your lfs or read online.

http://reefhobbyistmagazine.com/archives/vol1_iss1/index.htm

I would say looking at his picks that would be a true watermellon ... I have one of the purple ones with super green rim and eyes he shows in his article.. I have several chalices.

I would like to trade some chalice peices sometime.

The real Tyree LE Watermelon should have real Neon Pink ridges with dark(a blend of Pink and Green mix) base and Neon Lemon Lime Green skirt ... (exactly as what you see from this picture(courtesy of RandyO)....

WaterEchinoNov06.jpg

This is the actual piece I picked up from RandyO about two years ago for this 1/2 inch frag .... still my Favourite piece!! Can't wait for it to grow out to a Big, Big colony...
It's still on that piece of rock and has already covered 3/4 all around it and round too ....

The Watremelon was acquired by RandyO from Hugo aka SniperSPS awhile back .....
