Tube worm pest

Hi all,

I have a two year old reef aquarium. Tube worms are becoming a pest for me, I literally have hundreds, and some og them in zoa colonies. Do any of you know why they spread to mush, and how I can prevent this?

They usually rise and fall depending on the amount of food that's available in the system. IMO would leave them alone as they keep nutrient levels low and help maintain good water quality.

I have seen where some people have had success with getting a Peppermint shrimp to eat them sometimes.

The only reason for my wish to get rid of them is the fact that they irritate my Zoas.

had thousands of them literally. As said they are a sign of high nutrients. My copperband wiped them out in weeks but that's a delicate fish and potentially will nip on few other things in your tank.

I guess that the best option for me is to adjust my skimmer to brew some lighter coffee :)

Really no way to get rid of them other than lowering nutrients or finding a predator and most species are hit or miss.

Not nutrints. Dissolved organics in the tank. filter feeders need particles. too many particles too many particle feeders.
consider mechanical filtration(not skimmer), filter floss before the pump, and filter socks.
and oddly enough, peroxide dosing.
