Hello fellow reefers,

If your deciding on a media to run for the first time, or on a hunt for a new media, then the Tunze is a great option to consider.

It's 99% pure, that opens the door to dose trace elements with less worry of an overdose, than the medias that we melt, that come out of the ocean.
But, It would still best to still preform a ICP report to know where you stand.

It also has a high starting melting point, to achieve a good ph rebound.

So, If your on the hunt, the Tunze is a very nice choice to consider.

If you need help finding it on ebay thru Tunze USA, then I'm sure Roger would love to help you out.

Edit:
This thread is not about the best way to run and or setup a calcium reactor, by any means.

Thank you! FWIW, this is a media other companies also sell in Europe, it is basically granulated limestone. It is much more pure. My understanding is it is not mined limestone but is a by product of an industrial chemical process and is basically manmade limestone. I believe it is a residue from the process of converting iron to steel. It does need a lower pH, around 6.5, to dissolve.

Mine dissolves at a ph of 6.8.
Works real well in my 3171.
This is about 5 months useage in my system.
It was started at the bottom blue line.
Bad pic but I just took it before leaving for work lol.

90's, thanks for the heads up on the Tunze media.

I've been melting at 6.8 with an effluent rate of 280ml per min.

Things look good and see no need to change.
