Tunze Epoxy for coral mounting failure.

After about 3 months, my corals will dislodge off the rock.

I use Tuze Coral Gum sandwiched between BRS Extra Thick Super Glue to mount coral and I was curious if anyone else has this issue.

Its pretty consistent, typically its the LPS or the birdsnest.

Couple thought.

Do I need a different epoxy?

Should I toothbrush the rock prior?

It could be the result of the urchins or turbo snails.

Happy to hear advice from more seasoned coral keepers.

Toothbrushing can be very helpful with rock in the tank that has a slime or grunge coat on the surface.

Otherwise, the best repeatable results for me have been to glue outside of the tank, and put the rock + coral back into the tank after a couple of minutes of drying time. Superglue gel works well this way, and epoxy + gel also is improved with the rock our of water, but it can work underwater as well. The more you do it, the more success you will have, based upon what I have seen LFS reefers doing in shops.

Urchins, fish, snails, are not helpful and amazingly distructive with these things. GL.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like it is just a reccurent thing. I will try the toothbrush. It might just be part of caretaking for me. Once in a while I will get a frag out of it. Its not super often but, its always a shock to find a gap on your rockwork and a coral sitting on the sand.

I use Polyp Lab glue because people say its the best and my corals wont stay on for longer than 2 weeks. Im at a loss at this point. I brush them and everything. I guess im gonna have to go to an epoxy and cross my fingers.

I'd say toothbrush the rock. I love Tunze Coral Gum. IMO it's one of the best options out there
