Tunze Macro reactors

Hey guys,

I've been running my Tunze Macro reactor (3181) for a while.

I find post a Citric acid bath when everything is nice and clean the macro spins nicley at the bottom of the reactor. This usually lasts for a day or 2.

After a few days it seems to float to the top - hits the "cage" on the bottom of the lid and stops spinning.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or managed to fix it (ie. keep the macro down the bottom of the chamber)?

This generally means the flow rate is too high but it can also indicate that the pump is taking in air or the photo period is too long, bubbles accumulating on the chaeto will cause it to float. Spinning is less important than not having an excessive flow rate, generally speaking the pump will be set to a very low speed in a standard in sump set up. If the chaeto even turns once a day or in fits and starts, it is fine, especially when the clump is small.

Thanks (and sorry for the last reply). Currently it spins a revolution around every 5-10 seconds so definitely going to slow that down.

There are no air bubbles being pumped in - not the say the macro isn't producing tiny bubbles as a bi-product and it sticking to the macro.

Is it still floating? Try reducing the light duration by an hour or two if so, the rotation speed is fine, but you could slow it slightly.

I had that problem with the I clouded Tunze pump

I swapped it out with a cheap Jebao pump, with controller

And don't have that issue any more

Spins at the bottom

If it does stop spinning, I crank up the speed of the pump until it does spin. Then turn it back down

Added some cheapy grow lights on the other side
