Is there any advantage of controlling your tunze pumps with a tunze controller like the new one or a tunze 7096 etc over controlling it with your apex if you have one? thoughts?

I think the control you can get from the Apex is for the most part limitless. It has far more control abilities than the Tunze 7096.

If it were me I would control them off the Apex if the return pump was not plugged into or controlled by the Apex. If the return is controlled by the Apex, I would use the Tunze controller. My reasoning for this is that if the Apex fails in any way, your tank still has some sort of flow.

I highly recommend running your Tunze off of the Apex. I have a Tunze controller and ditched it. As Gcarroll states above, the Apex is far more flexible.

For example, I have four Tunze pumps and can now turn them off or down low at night but ramp them up during the day, once a day I run all four to create a storm to kick up detritus. You can coordinate your automatic feeder with you Tunze etc. Just a real nice setup in my opinion.

I concur about using Apex. Assuming you already have the Apex, no need to spend money on the Tunze controller. I have two 6055s and have them slowly ramp up/down opposite each other. Setting up the various profiles and then putting them to use took a bit of getting used to conceptually:

Var4_1_6055L:
Set 6055_35
If Time 00:00 to 03:00 Then 6055_Up1
If Time 03:00 to 06:00 Then 6055_Up2
If Time 06:00 to 09:00 Then 6055_Dn1
If Time 09:00 to 12:00 Then 6055_Dn2
If Time 12:00 to 15:00 Then 6055_Up1
If Time 15:00 to 18:00 Then 6055_Up2
If Time 18:00 to 21:00 Then 6055_Dn1
If Time 21:00 to 00:00 Then 6055_Dn2
If FeedA 000 Then 6055_35
If FeedB 030 Then OFF

Var4_2_6055R:
Set 6055_35
If Time 00:00 to 03:00 Then 6055_Dn1
If Time 03:00 to 06:00 Then 6055_Dn2
If Time 06:00 to 09:00 Then 6055_Up1
If Time 09:00 to 12:00 Then 6055_Up2
If Time 12:00 to 15:00 Then 6055_Dn1
If Time 15:00 to 18:00 Then 6055_Dn2
If Time 18:00 to 21:00 Then 6055_Up1
If Time 21:00 to 00:00 Then 6055_Up2
If FeedA 000 Then 6055_35
If FeedB 030 Then OFF
If Power Apex Off 000 Then 6055_35

30% is the lowest they'll go and keep spinning, FYI. I use FeedB for water changes.
