Hi everyone,

I recently placed chaeto in my fiji 30 advanced sump with the tunzee light. Is the attached picture of the light placement good for growth?

I'd suggest placing a very small circ pump or powerhead in that section with the Cheato that will cause the ball to slowly spin, then you'll be lighting it from all sides.

Overhead for maximum coverage is best.
I first placed it on top of the refugium but there is a good 6-8 inch gap between light and water level. I thought the chaeto isn’t getting enough PAR to grow so i submerged the light.

Thank you. I ordered a nano pump. How far should the light be from the chaeto?

I really don't know, I don't know how strong that light is, but I doubt it's too strong. Just watch for the algae turning white like it's getting burned out. As long as it stays green it should be fine.

I have two of those lights and I keep them right above the waters surface

You may find you need to build an egg crate shield around the power head to keep it from getting clogged. Taking this photo caused me to realize one of my 2 refugium pumps was clogged.

The UV return luckily never clogs

I did try them under water but they grew algae on them and I found it hard to trust the water proof. It is nice not to have to worry when I do a water change and the level rises and they submerge.

You place it horizontally, not vertically.
My refugium chamber is only 9.7 inch wide and the light is 12 inch wide. It wont fit right above the water level. I can just set it on top of my refugium but then the distance from light to chaeto is around 6 inches or more. I am not sure if chaeto would grow with light that far apart.

Lucky you for having a wide enough refugium. My fiji advanced 30 sump only has a 9.7 inch wide refugium chamber and it wont fit horizontally :(

Maybe a little crooked ? Is there enough room ? Just a thought.
