I am planning to grow some gsp and plating montipora on my back wall and was wondering if if these urchins would knock them down.

I keep tuxedo's in all my tanks and have never had issues with them eating coral.
They have been fantastic at eating algae, the only downside is, regardless of how funny it looks, is that they like to cover themselves in stuff they can carry.
Mine will carry snails and any frags not glued down given half the chance.

agreed, frags that are not well secured or have not yet grown over their base to the rock below are under threat of becoming hats. It's not that much of a problem, however. I've found other urchins to be worse offenders (Halloween and pencil)

Love them - I have them on all tanks, except acrylics tanks. Their sharp teeth can munch thru coralline algae/rocks so they will leave tiny swirl marks on acrylics that will be extremely difficult to buff out later.

I never once had issues with my tuxedo urchin bothering my coral
