Sorry, have to vent for a minute….

Ugh!! So I was cleaning my front glass the other day. I’m currently using the Tunze cleaner. I’ve gotten into the habit of checking the inside piece thoroughly before I use it. I neglected to fully check the outside part (apparently)…I looked at it, but I missed the small piece of…something on the pad. You can guess what happened. Yeah, I manage to put 2 scratches on the outside of my glass. I have been feeling like a total failure for the past couple of days. I’ve worked so hard to get this tank up an running for the past year and a half and one minute of not paying 100% attention and I do that?!?!

From my chair it all but disappears, but from certain angles, the Kessils make it gleam like a laser beam. I’ll get over it in a few days, but it makes me sick to my stomach every time I see it (or think about it).

I know I’m not the only one to do it….but again, Ugh!!

I keep telling myself that the tank is still going to be awesome once it begins to come into its own and the scratch shouldn’t impact my enjoyment, but good grief, it sure is frustrating.

Thanks for letting me vent, it helped to get it out to folks who might understand. Anyone else want to vent a “I CAN’T BELIEVE I DID THAT” moment? Feel free!!

Take Care, Everyone!

Brian

Yeah that drives me crazy also....I tried so hard not to scratch my 105g rimless DSA tank, going as far as never using the magnet scrapers. Guess what...still has scratches :-( I am guessing it was caused by those little white, hard as rock, growths that I must have missed. Only takes one to get stuck in your magic eraser lol.

do you think a magic eraser is better than a mag scraper or a hand scraper for that matter, if youre anti-magnet? seems a scraper is a more ideal tool and one designed for the job, but to each their own.

I've thought about trying to repair them, but the fear is making things worse! :-). I'm fighting a nasty diatom bloom now...doing a 10% water change tomorrow . One crisis at a time. LOL!

The scrapers just throw the algae around the tank, while the erasers hold onto it so it can be removed. I have scrapers as well....just don't use them.

FWIW, the second you to remove the algae the spores go everywhere scraper or magnet doesn't matter.
I have Hawaii black sand which is slightly magnetic so I have scratches

Ahhh, if it were acrylic, there are ways to buff out scratches with successively finer grades of sand paper. I had to do this on my 90 gallon acrylic tank when I lived in Dallas.

Always ALWAYS Place a freshly washed cloth between the magnet and the glass. An old t shirt ripped into squares works great.

I'll definitely do that in the future!

I really love my wife! I was grousing about it again and she made the comment that I should get over it and enjoy the tank. She's right, of course. But, she also said that she figured we'd upgrade in a few years anyway. [emoji4]. What a woman!

So is it too early to plan a 180? LOL!
