Hey guys! I’ve had an awkward situation these last two weeks. Usually my red firefish has a specific hole that he sleeps in every night without fail, except now he has decided to room with my tiger pistol shrimp and watchman goby. Typically the pistol shrimp and goby switch up their burrow spot every few nights and still the firefish tracks them down and joins them. The pistol shrimp already seems generally annoyed with his goby’s existence and constantly shoves him around, so I doubt he’s pleased about the new squatter that doesn’t pay rent either.
Does this fish usually have no survival instincts? Or is this something that just happens? 🫡

Interesting. I wonder if there is another predator lurking in the rocks that isn't as scary as the pistol shrimp? Maybe the firefish is hoping that the shrimp will protect it as well as the goby, all safe and warm in the burrow?

It will sort itself out eventually.

Fish behavior can go in interesting directions. My fire fish cave mates consist of a coral banded shrimp and a neon goby.

Maybe! There is a pom pom crab that lurks around sometimes…

No way! Thats a crazy combo

I bet the pistol shrimp is mad the Watchman goby is a terrible watchman allowing a squatter onto their property.
Hehe he has no reaction to the firefish whatsoever 😅 even if it’s right on top of him.
