Could the new leds be causing this?
causing, no. High nutrients and then finally good lights. theres a lot of other stuff going on in the tank right now as I recall. Now adding rood light there's better photosynthesis, so all the organisms are taking advantage of it.
itll actually help bring the nutrients down because all organisms will use it up. IMO about the time those lil "brown zoas" color up itll be gone. keep scraping:) thats how I spent my weekend

Ok so I shouldn't do anything except keep scraping and cleaning this stuff out. Keep lighting schedule the same and everything else and just let it run its course.

And btw thanks a lot! Appreciate the pointers!
no sweat. Keep an eye on the shrooms, I think they'll tell you if you have too much light.
if the algae or cyano get to be a prob dont be afraid to do a black out. itll just help your clean up chores.

Actually, me and the wife are going out of town Thursday for 4 days and the lights are gonna be off for that entire time bc I haven't hooked my timer up yet.

I have a pair of SBReef 16" Basic Boxes over a standard 75g right now. I LEDs are 9" above the water line; because of the distance I removed all of the optics for better blending (no more disco ball effect). I started at 30% on both channels but they're connected to a Reef Angel controller on a 12 hour parabola schedule. I've moved that up to 40% on the actinic channel but the daylight is still at 30%. I dont have any high light stuff in there yet but everything is doing well (RBTA, meteor shower, torch, red monti, green mushrooms, pipe organ, green toadstool, and a duncan).

On another note, I just purchased Kessil A360WEs to replace these because I'll be able to use my existing canopy again (light creep in the room drives me bonkers and the way I have them mounted right now just doesnt match the level of the rest of the system). The coverage has been great and everything in the tank seems to be doing really well; the meteor shower has only been in there about a week and has already started encrusting the epoxy I used to hold it down.
