Ok, so I have a 60 gallon pro clear cube now and have had it since February with everything thriving. I’ve got the itch and got the go ahead from the wife to add another tank! (She loves the hobby as much as I do)
I am between two tanks currently…Red Sea S 550 and the Innovative Marine Int 100. I know everyone has their own opinions and I’d like to get some input/experience from everyone.
I was originally sold on Red Sea, I have a reef mat in my 60 gallon and I love not dealing with socks so I would like to continue using a larger reef mat in the new tank. The Red Sea seems pretty plug in play if you get the G2+ setup. But, I am concerned with all the research I’ve done and stories about seals failing etc so I started looking at IM. Their tanks look really nice and I love the stands…hate the sumps! I want to be around the 150 total water volume mark and if I understand it correctly the S-550 is 145 gallon with a display of 118 gallon where as the IM is 100 gallon display and then 30-40 gallon sump.
If I went with the IM I’d buy it without the sump and then go aftermarket sump (trigger systems platinum with mat, synergy RM-34, Luna Ecco 3418…or similar) then I’d go with 2 Dalua X4’s and 2 Ecotech MP-40’s, Ecotech return pump and probably the Maxspect Aeraqua Duo AD600 Protein Skimmer.
Tank with be reef, LPS, SPS and fish.
I love Red Sea stuff and how it’s all on one app etc but if I’m spending the money I want to make sure I’m gsetting myself up for success! Help me spend my money and choose the right tank! Haha thanks!!
