I used the 2nd compartment of my IM filtration section for my algae scrubber. Flow goes up.

I want to add that my tank is pretty new with dry rock and some live rock (+10 years old?) from another trusted reefer.

I bought an all RED led grow light from Amazon and cut out a section of the black sticker on the back of the IM tank.

Bought some velcro and slapped the grow light on the back of tank (Outside)

I went to Diaso and bought a polypropylene pencil case. I made sure it was because I asked the employee to translate the Japanese words for me. Theyre so nice there.

I cut the box to size and drilled bunch of holes where the water would flow out.

Roughed up some mesh screen and zipped it to the pencil box.

I zip tied some suction cups to the pencil box and slapped it onto the glass.

3 days with 18 hours lighting from the grow light and I'm starting to get some diatoms on the screen with a ton of bubbles from the gas exchange from the "algae"

QUESTION:

I HAVE NO AIR STONE OR BUBBLES THAT EVERYONE TYPICALLY HAS WITH THESE "UAS".

Does anyone have success WITHOUT the air bubbles?

I've seen one person with success but that was it.

Thanks!

I made an ATS for the first chamber in my Waterbox AIO, the flow is down, but I grow algae fine without air bubbles. I actually have algae growing on the back glass of that chamber now.
I turned one of the chambers into an algea turf scrubber (ATS). I used 1/16" black ABS, 7 mesh plastic canvas and Tunze Refugium Light. The ABS I heated with a heat gun and bent it around a 2x4. I cut the ABS using tin snips.

Interested in seeing how it works out. Not sure what other options there would be out there for an AIO.

I currently have it scheduled to run opposite of my lighting, 10PM to 1030AM.

Equipment Update:

The ATS appears to be working. I currently have it on from Midnight to 4AM.

That’s actually clever man

Great work

Do you have any other filtration ?

My tank is pretty new and I have an hob1.5 aquamaxx running while also running the ats.

I have some growth but not as great as yours so far.

Thank you.

I also run a skimmer and filter floss.
Same with the filter floss.

How many fish do you have ?

Not sure why I don’t have much algae growing.

I feed pretty heavy with 4 fish and some snails.

Mysis, cyclopeze, and brine.

I have four fish.

I'm also dosing nitrate and phosphate, otherwise they bottom out on me. Had dino pop up three times. But that was also happening before I added the ATS.
