Urgent Help Needed

Hi Experts,

Started a new reef tank which is now about 3 months after its full cycle. Just noticed that some of my corals (especially LPS which been in the tank for about a month) are not doing so well. The trachy and scoly are showing skeleton.

My favia is in a bad state.

My acan colony look faded too.

My current water parameter levels:
Temp: 25.5°c
Salinity: 1.025
Kh: 9
Ph: 8.2
Ammonia: 0
Nitrates: 5
Nitrites: 0
Phos: 0.1
Mg: 1300
Cal: 420

Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks.

have you had any parameter swings?

Parameters look fine. However a few things for consideration:

• I would of held off on introducing any corals until the tanks matures a bit more. In my opinion it is still too new.
• Very significant daily swings can be detrimental to coral. It would be as if the coral were introduced to a new system daily and not being allowed to adapt to a "Stable" environment. Can be stressful for inhabitants.
• I would have recommended not getting what appears to be expensive pieces until system is more established.
• Is there anything being dosed to the system?

Just a few thoughts that come to mind.

5ft tank:

I am using a Kessil as the centre light and 2 Red Sea LED at the sides. I am low light as i just started the tank.

Perhaps elevate slightly as it can be irritated by sand

What test kits are you using as you could be getting false readings
Look at the underneath of coral for any bugs or other pests
What is tank Temp-nitrate-PH-salinity ?

What are you feeding your corals/tank? I find Acan, Scoly, Trachy need to be fed descent size meaty food in my system at least a couple times a week. Chopped Mysis, LPS pellets etc all work well for me.

I can tell already the onefor Ammonia and Nitrate are API which is notorious for false readings and I would suggest taking a water sample to a trusted LFS that does NOT use API kits an see what they come up with for readings

I would try target feeding some chopped mysis and/or some pellet food for the corals in question after lights out and the feeder tentacles are out. Large tank with light fish load. I am guessing they are not getting enough to eat. I would cut back on the reef roids.

As suggested i looked under the corals I could not find anything suspicious that might me bugging the corals. But i noticed these...

The coral tissues are pealing from the stony base

You are spot-on... API. I have new set of Red Sea test kits for those, let me try. Thanks.
