UV filters

What are your thoughts on UV filters, I had one on my old tank and never had an algae problem, I didn't transfer it over to the new system and I can't seem to get it under control.

UV filters are great but I'd rather have pods that can reproduce.....gfo, pellets/carbon dosing can help with algae.
