I have a 20watt deltec uv steriliser on its way and just needed some advice.

it’s rated for 500 litres heavy stock up to 1000 litres lightly stocked at a flow rate of 1-2x tank turn over per hour At 30,000icrowatts/sec/sq.cm

I have a 250 litre reef tank and wanted to use it for algae control.

so does this mean I need a flow rate of about 250 litres per hour?

also what’s the most effective way to install it I watched a few of the brs videos that say a closed loop in the display is best but would rather not have a pump in my dt

would a pump in my first sump chamber feeding the uv and the outlet up into the dt be ok or is there any more effective ways to install

thanks

I would not pump from the sump into the DT. You could pump from first chamber to UV to second chamber without disrupting the levels in the sump too much.

So to be most effective would a small sicce pump in the dt to the uv and back to the dt be best

No. Small pump in sump, from one chamber, through UV, and into another chamber in sump. Return pump will handle the rest

So if I have a pump Solely for the uv in the first chamber of the sump thru the uv then out in to the return chamber that will work better

first chamber hold filtersocks and skimmer second is a refugium and 3rd chamber is return pump

I would go 1st to second or third, or 2nd to 3rd then. Whatever has more room for your pump. Pictures of your sump would help.

I run an Ozone Reactor, 4 UV sterilizers, a Turf Scrubber, and a skimmer..... and manage to fit everything in my sump

I have a 250 liter tank and use a Sicce 1.5, 357 gph on a 18 watt uv. I just recirculate it in the sump past the refugium. Works great no algae . Tank running for 2 months now. You do not want to high of a flow rate or dwell.

So I have plenty of room behind my skimmer in chamber one I could get a pump in I’m attaching the uv to a rail I have that holds my refugium light above the sump then could have the uv output into my return chamber (chamber 3)

That’s a solid plan
