I wonder what kind of microplastics are being released into our aquariums from degrading PVC within these UV's? I mean, it has to go somewhere as it deteriorates? @Randy Holmes-Farley any studies on this?
These pipes are very thick so for all that plastic to erode away over a few years was a big surprise to me and I would agree with you, where does all this go? ...into the tank and consumed by our pets. At the time all I found information wise were a few others that had reported blowouts, nothing (at least that I could find) on any studies.

The PVC UV sleeve should be replaced annually, but I think @Boo Baker is talking about the quartz sleeve, which only needs to be replaced if it gets cloudy and can’t be cleaned.
My Manufacturer recommends the bulb , and sleeve be replaced annually it says nothing about film . I think they are concerned with declining intensity with the bulb , how would anybody know different. It would not get film in my case as it is on the downstream side of my RO because my RO is zero waste and the what should be waste water goes into my hot water supply . Without it my hot water stunk. It was Randy Holmes Farley that got me to add it , And fixed it right up. If It was a normal running UV for salt water , or your house I would imagine it would get coated by salt , or calcium . I have no idea

Yes I voiced the same concern a little while ago again would an ICP test reveal that ?
