UV Sterilizer - do you run it on a schedule?

Hi Everyone,

I have RKE automation so I can schedule lights to run on certain days and length of time. Concerning my UV sterizlier (40 watt - 200 gallon aquarium) based on what I've read when using in a mixed reef it's not a good idea to run 24x7 because it kills a lot of good stuf floating in the water that the corals absorb along with all the bad stuff like parasites, algae etc. So does it make any sense to run the UV sterlizer for 24, 48 or 72 hours etc. to try and kill the bad stuff and hopefully not kill off all the good stuff as well?

Interested to hear what everyone's thoughts are on scheduling and UV sterilizers in general?

I run mine 24/7 on my Reef and hae only noticed positive effects. Crystal clear water and no mor dinos

I run it 24/7. and everythings just fine.

24/7. Its a small 9V Submersible UV sterilizer but it keeps my water column clean.

I run when the DT is lights out, roughly 14 hours overnight. I find I still get the same results, but don't have the heat contribution during the daylight hours.

I got mine and had the same concern i was running full-time and it murdered all my red algae. Which was awesome i then dropped it down to run 10 hours. Same as my light. After doing this i had a huge outbreak of green hair algae ive turned it back to 24 7 algae hasnt diappeared but its gone down alot and is helping slowly along with my clean up crew. Hope it helps
